Without, after dark: A snowy downtown at night seen from a rooftop: a slender tower of pale stone and glowing glass rising far above the older brick buildings around it, garden terraces cut into it with trees and lamps, steam from a pool at its top, and a tall gold doorway at the street.
Within: A rooftop at night: a long warm pool steaming under the stars with swimmers, pines and lanterns around it, and the whole lit city spread out below.

The hour

After dark, and first light

The same spot, twice. Take hold of the line and change the hour.

First light: The same rooftop view at first light: rose-gold sun on the pale tower and its garden terraces, mist rising from the rooftop pool, snow on every roof.

Today

The same ground, built right

One slender site in the skyline, as it is now, and as it could be. Pull today aside.

Today: The same view as it is now: a squat windowless gray concrete tower with louvered mechanical floors and a roof crowded with cooling units, a parking garage at its base, under an overcast sky.

The wall label

Pale stone and glass · 60 MW · one slender site downtown

On one small downtown site the halls stack into a slender tower, and the stack is the skyline's new lantern: machine floors glowing softly behind glass, and every seventh floor cut open as a garden the public rides up to. On the roof a warm pool steams under the stars. At the sidewalk, a room the city walks straight into.

The sky gardens, the pool on the roof, and a room at the sidewalk the city walks straight into.
